Sharing Space

Identifying thresholds, objects, circulation, and boundaries within my home, while understanding how I share my home with my housemates. By intervening the physical boundaries within my home that block and disrupt movement, I diagrammed these changes which raised my awareness of my spatial perception. I realised that I took for granted being able to move around freely without any obstacles, and my movements became more limited with each physical boundary blocking my way.

A Boundary

3D model made out of mirror and card experimenting different views and actions of thresholds. A boundary always has two sides which can connect or seperate space. How do these openings disrupt, block, layer, or open up space? What does mirror as a reflective material start to do, or infer about interiority to its surroundings?

Inside - Outside Experience

Observing and diagramming the inside/outside experience within my home, and the public realm. The act of thresholds as filtering, framing, shielding, connecting, and creating moments of social encounter. How do windows and doors act as physical connectors to the outside world? What are the edges that define indoor/outdoor? How do balconies offer an extension of the outdoors which allow for placemaking? How can arcades and louvres change degrees of privacy? By identifying these thresholds of inside/outside, I start to realise that private and public space also become intertwined.
