Layered Model

The three layers represent three different states of transparency and permeability. Translucent/Open (acrylic), Semi-permeable (tracing paper), and Solid/Closed (foam core). I layered these materials to blur views and change levels of visibility through the gradation of transparency. By overlapping the materials, they create different effects and affordances which can form open or closed spaces. I implemented these ideas into a grid structure which shows how my layered model could be implemented as a system of sliding panels which open up and close the space. Through the use of different solid and open panels, the structure facilitates movement and allows users to adapt the space to their liking.
